We spent quite a bit of time in this, one of our favorite stops, last year so we were pretty familiar with the place. The difference this time was the weather was very pleasant; a little rain some days but overall very nice. We had another excellent meal at the Greek restaurant we visited last year. We did a little walking around town, Aaron and Betsy visited the St. Catharine's Convent Museum that we took in last year; a good time was had by all.
Our last day in town, Saturday, June 7, began cloudy but turned warm and sunny.
About 6 pm the sirens started to wail and the fire trucks were turning right up the street at the end of the dock headed for the center of town. After about the fifth truck went screaming up the street we decided to wander up and see what all the excitement was about. Smoke was billowing out of a canal-side building. We'd heard stories about medieval cities burning to the ground but luckily the Utrecht fire department was right on the job and a couple hours later the fire was out.
