I took these shots standing on the roof using a Panasonic FZ5. The zoom and stabilization on the camera are great. It almost looks like the fire is right in our front yard.
Cathy got up first and when I came into the kitchen just after the sun came up she said, "Look our the front door." The sky was really dark with smoke over the hillside but we really couldn't see too many flames. About 10 o'clock we thought things were under control but about an hour later the wind kicked up again and things got interesting.
I thought the pilot of the P3 making the phoscheck drop was so low he was going to land on Lincoln St. And the big water-crane helicopter looked like a ballet dancer hopping from hot-spot to hot-spot.
But, once again, the firefighters did a great job and no homes were lost.
